I was in a very bad motor vehicle accident back in 2011.
I was 17 at the time (I am now 26), only 8 years has passed yet so much has happened.
Let me start back at the beginning and tell my full story, my side of the story.
09 March 2011 at about 2 in the afternoon, my best friend and I took the car for a drive, unfortunately his foot got stuck on the accelerator(he was driving), we lost control of the vehicle and collided into a sign post which spun the vehicle off into a tree.
I sustained a TBI or traumatic brain injury on impact and very sadly my best friend (he was driving) lost his life that day (RIP).
I was in a coma for 19 days after I was rushed to the hospital, I began my therapy as I woke up which is why I believe I have made such a good recovery.
After a time I was sent to an intensive rehabilitation facility in Johannesburg. I was there for 5 weeks where I was given an experimental drug to help wake the brain.
I went from not being able to do anything for myself, to being able to walk out 5 weeks later. I was an infant again. I had to learn how to do everything again.
I came back home after 5 weeks where my therapy continued.
I underwent occupational therapy, phisio-therapy and speech therapy in the first few months. Later on I started with biokinetics, then my therapy took a turn.
Here I will make an assortment of posts detailing my experiences of the rehab process which will continue for my life, due to my injuries and such.
